GAUGE vs Gartner AI Maturity Model

Both frameworks score enterprise AI maturity but they answer different questions. Gartner's AI Maturity Model is an organisation-wide diagnostic of how broadly AI is adopted across the enterprise. GAUGE — the Enterprise Agentic Governance Benchmark this publication maintains — is a deployment-level diagnostic of whether a specific agent-mode system will survive 18 months of regulatory, security, and commercial pressure. This is not a "GAUGE is better" comparison. Gartner's instrument is the right tool for organisation-wide planning conversations. GAUGE is the right tool for the specific procurement decision in front of the team this quarter. Most CIOs need both. The differentiator: GAUGE is open-methodology with public amendment logs; Gartner's methodology is syndicated subscription content.

When to choose which

Choose GAUGE — Enterprise Agentic Governance Benchmark

Pick GAUGE when the question is "should this specific agent-mode deployment ship, and what should we fix before it does." It is built for the procurement-decision conversation. Open methodology means a CIO can defend the score in a board meeting without a Gartner subscription paywall. Stronger fit for tactical decisions on a 30-90 day timeline.

Choose Gartner AI Maturity Model

Pick Gartner AI Maturity Model when the question is "where does the enterprise sit relative to peers across the full AI surface" and the conversation is at the strategy / executive level. Gartner's organisation-wide research base and peer benchmarking are not replicable from outside their subscriber pool. Stronger fit for annual planning conversations.
