Agentic AI
Also known as: agentic, AI agents, agent mode
Software systems built on large language models that plan multi-step tasks, call external tools, and act on a goal without per-step human prompts. Distinguished from a single-shot AI assistant by autonomy of tool use and goal pursuit.
How this publication uses it
This publication uses 'agentic AI' for systems with at least: tool use, multi-step planning, and a goal that survives across calls. A chatbot answering one question is not agentic. The boundary matters because risk, governance, and procurement decisions all hinge on which side of it a system sits.
